For this assignment, I watched the film “Pretty in Pink” (1989). Molly Ringwald acted as Andie Walsh, a poor teenager, who lived with her single father as a working class family. Throughout the movie, she struggles with the richer students at her snobbish high school treating her more like a misfit and less of an equal because she has less money. Andie holds her head high and brushes them off. Despite her opinion on people with money, she falls for Blaine, a “richie”.…

I have chosen to identify and relate five moral lessons, or lessons in general used in the story and relate them to life in the twenty-first century; a little side note, there are countless things in this story that are real “emotion pullers” from the simple caring for people, to much larger examples. However, I am going to stray away from the obvious examples, such as “Hey, let’s not have another mass genocide.” because that's too blatant and we know already not to repeat those things. First, the most apparent lesson is the value of friendship, trust, and support.…

Social inequality has been feature of every civilization since the earliest agrarian societies. In almost all cases, the aristocracy oppresses the lower and middle classes socially and economically. However, throughout history, there have been individuals who have spoken out and fought against social inequality. In the short story, “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara, Miss Moore is the character who tries to combat social inequality by pointing it out to the young protagonist Sylvia and her friends, which proves to be difficult. The children speak negatively about Miss Moore when she is not present, and they are reluctant to give any credence to any message or advice that she conveys to them.…

Diversity in Health Care As the ethnic and racially diverse populations of the United States continue to expand, so does the need for cultural competence. Health care providers are continually challenged to deliver care that meets the physiologic and cultural needs of the patient. In view of this fact, initiatives to increase and improve the awareness and effectiveness of cultural competency is at the forefront of health care initiatives (Purnell, 2013). Application of universally accepted approaches to culturally competent care must be adopted by all health care providers no matter what their role (Douglas, et al.,2014) The purpose of this paper is to explore how the theory, framework and domains described in the Purnell Model of Cultural…

The first takeaway from the film is that expectations rarely coincide with reality. If I set myself too high of an expectation believing that I can achieve it, but I fall short in the end, that would be devastating. For future references, I will attempt to keep expectations at a minimum for any purpose at all, whether that be getting that grade in class I wanted to a new romantic relationship, to keep myself from being discouraged. The second lesson would be that there are two sides to every story. In the case of Tom, he only believed in his own perspective and didn’t think to look on and understand the other side.…

In Jessamyn West’s story, “The Lesson” there is a theme following how all death is eminent. John Thomas is a thirteen year old boy living in California with his father, sister Jo, housekeeper Mrs. Henny, and cow Curly. The story does not entail how his mother died, but that her death is a major factor in the theme of the story about how it affects each character. The story also makes the lesson seem directed toward John Thomas by accepting the death of his beloved show cow. However it is actually about his sister Jo, and how her father’s lesson brings her to change the journey she is on.…
