Home Depot’s fiercest competitor is Lowe’s. “Home Depot achieved a growth rate of 8.2% and Lowe’s had a total comparable store sales growth rate of 6.2%”(Opinion: In Home Depot vs. Lowe’s, the winner is, 2015). Although Home Depot had a stronger fiscal year, Lowe’s is the closest competitor in the home improvement industry. In terms of leveraging paid, earned and owned media I will rank each separately on a 1-10 scale, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. For paid media, I would rank Home Depot a 6 out of 10 and competitor Lowe’s an 8. For earned media, I would rank Home Depot a 7 out of 10 and Lowe’s an 8. Home Depot’s current “Let’s Do It” campaign is informative, simple and educational. The campaign is informative with showing consumers how the Home Depot helps them to finish their DIY projects, simple with short phrases, educational showing the different tools available through Home Depot and highlights a Home Depot exclusive product at the end. The Lowe’s Facebook page has over 3 million followers and the Twitter page has 200,000 followers. The page posts targeted home improvement information with pictures and additional external links similar to the Home Depot pages. However, Lowe’s received a higher ranking due to their consumer responsiveness. They respond to every comment made on the page positive or negative they use it to interact with consumers and troubleshoot customer service issues.     I did notice that the Lowe’s website allows customers to provide ratings and reviews, whereas Big Lots did not. Also Lowe’s posts on its Facebook page pictures of their products and a lot of mini short videos of people working on home improvement. I think it’s pretty effective. I watched a couple of those videos myself and seeing regular people working on making their houses look more beautiful, made me feel like those were simple things that even I could do on my own.
