It was interesting to see how community members responded to hospice care and the ways they can be involved in the care of hospice patients.
B. Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) was the only system that I used to enter information. SHP is a system to record patient assessments based on pain, anxiety and shortness of breath to allow physicians and nurses to observe how the patient is progressing or diminishing. There was a scale 0-10, zero being the best 10 being the worst and I entered the number that the patient gave the nurse and whether the patient was comfortable with that specific level of pain, shortness of breath and anxiety.
C. My task as an intern related to Heartland’s Mission by enriching lives. I helped make sure patient files were properly organized in order to decrease the chances of mixed up and increase the organization of patient information, in turn patients and families don’t have to worry about un-organization of information. In addition to organizing I could do tasks that the professional task didn’t have time to complete ranging from sending mail to working with employee payroll information. Since the office was in the process of switching computer systems it was important that all the patient files are in order to make a smooth transition from paper to electronic filing. With files being taken care of, I played a part of enriching the lives of the staff by taking care of those tasks that could put more stress on them as they
