In a hotel, there are many core facilities but of all, the common three are Housekeeping, Maintenance and Engineering and lastly, Security. In particular, the core facility that will be focused on is the Security department wherein researches will be made on how the security department is related to the other. To summarize, the purpose of this paper is to know the interrelationships and dependencies of the Security department to the other departments, and the implications that these inter-relationships and dependencies have on the provision of service to the guest and meeting industry benchmarks. This is where they basically check all places of the area and make sure that no danger is lurking around. Hotel managers usually prefer their security guards to be visible at all times to give all guests a sense of security.
Secondly, they are also responsible for taking action and responding back to complaints and calls for help. The security, for an instance, when a guard hears a guest crying for help or is called for by the front desk, they must be prepared to speed up to a dangerous scene and calm all the guests and even control the situation until the right officials arrive. Firearms are usually not carried by hotel guards although they still have access to it when required.
Thirdly, they are responsible for maintaining and monitoring anything electronic surveillance equipment related, such as alarm systems, etc. It is typical for this department to purchase this as part of their job. Hotel employ security guards for the safety of the guests and as well as the other departments in the hotel and this allows security guards to keep control of the hotel at any time of the day. Being a security guard complies of being flexible during duty hours which means, being available for any shifts especially when necessary.
There are different departments dependent to the Security department. These are the Front office department, Housekeeping Department, Food and Beverage Department.
For the Front Office Department, an example can be in the arrival stage. When a VIP guest/s checks in, the Security department should know what room is that guest occupying and should be monitored or escorted at all times to prevent any break-ins or robbery. Another good example is in case of fire situations, the guards are there to keep the situation in control or report investigation of guest security concerns therefore requiring the cooperation of the Front Office
