Hours In School

Students at Coalgate Public Schools have often endured a five day school week with two days off. As a result, students, staff, parents, and the school board are pushed to the limit with funds, ineligibility, and stress. The best way to fix this dilemma is to decrease the amount of days in school. So, Coalgate Schools having a four day week would benefit both students and staff. To begin, giving teachers and students a day off would lessen the strain on teachers. Some teachers spend most of their weekends grading papers. As a result, they might not have free time to themselves or their family. But, with an extra day, they could find the time to grade and have free time. Furthermore, this will give students an extra day for homework. Therefore, students might have a lower ineligibility rate and might not have to bother teachers in their planning time. This could help relax teachers and they would be more patient with the class. Lastly, teachers could have more time for scheduling and planning student activities. Similar to the grading, teachers need time to plan a quality lesson for their students. In addition, having more time on the weekends will reduce the numbers of zeros given. For example, electricity costs have been increasing the last few years. With less days of electricity the school would potentially save thousand of dollars. The town could have a tax reduction because of this money efficient way. Another money saving appliance cost would be heating and air conditioning. These two essential needs are costly and break down often. If the school uses them less, not only would they last longer, but they would cost only a fraction of today's cost. The last way for the school to save money is on gas for buses. Coalgate Schools run buses in the morning and afternoon, which can be extremely expensive.
