Those employed by a company had to work long hours and long days for an insufficient minimum amount of pay; consequently, little to no time was spent with the family. The “previous production of any item had typically involved one person gathering all the parts needed to complete a project and then building the item from start to finish before moving on to the next item.” Ford was certain that there was an easier way to accomplish the same end result in a much quicker way. For this, Ford came up with the five day week in which he had his employees concentrate on just one assignment for the week, every week. By having the work arranged into five day week, the employees were more successful at their assigned task and the automobiles were assembled much quicker than before. Tasks were reduced to simple ones that could be constantly repeated to perfection. For a long time, Ford was the only business owner in the country to implement such a work schedule; hence, many believed, although scrutinized at first, that Ford’s idea was an undeniably genius one. Due to the outstanding ability of one man to enforce positive life changes, indisputably, business-labor relations have significantly undergone great improvements throughout the years, facilitating the lives of all. Plenty can be learned about Ford’s ideas that have helped maintain a functional society through the book. As previously mentioned, the information provided clearly and concisely indicates that Henry Ford greatly impacted the 20th century and continues to impact the 21st century even after his death. Although his inventions were not infallible and they continue to improve with time, they serve as a benefit to everyone in every community throughout America. Ford’s business-labor relations are pillars for everyone in America.
