Just 300 years ago, life was completely different. Nothing changed for long periods of time and there was complete dependence on those in positions of power. Society was dominated by agriculture and no one had private property. Families worked together in a specific craft and separate from the rest of the community. Eventually, small innovations turned into bigger and bigger changes until the world became set in a state of constant transformation. Today, there seems to be a new discovery or an improvement in technology every few days. People commute to work every day and work at completely different jobs than their partners in industries such as medicine, finance, and education. What caused the shift in our world? Today’s reality began when people saw a way to make their work more efficient by inventing ingenious machines. The industrial revolution in Britain was Man’s servant because technologies were invented that allowed the country to shift focus from farming to industry, grow economically, and bring about many social changes.
