Others serves as Red cross volunteers and in support roles. These women dealt with illness, wounds, deaths and emotional traumas. Women worked as hard as they could for the Red cross in response to any national emergency. Women would also have to deal with children and family responsibilities as well as having to deal with grief and trauma of losing their loved ones. As most soldiers had gone to fight in the war, women had to replace the men in the workforce.This put a lot of pressure upon the older children in the family as they had to take care of the household duties and had to take care of any younger children When World War started it was unusual for women to have more than a few jobs other than serving roles like helping out families and helping soldiers. In ww1 more women volunteered to help but they would mostly help with the food, clothing and printing industry jobs that were already established as female roles Many of the men who came back from the War were suffering from serious injuries, the effects of Mustard Gas and or shell shock.
