Picture a girl heading out onto the field. She are about to try out for her school’s soccer team. She have everything she needs: the gear, the attitude, and the skills. She’s been training endlessly for months. As she approaches the field, there is a surprising amount of boys and little to no girls. She asks the boy’s coach where everyone is, and he replies “Didn’t you hear? My boys needed new jerseys and soccer balls. We had to dip into the girl’s funding, the team is cut. Better luck next year!” Now she’s left standing on the field, crestfallen. Although this story is fictional, it is an unfortunate reality for girls worldwide. Boys are, for the most part, the bigger priority in sports, in school and out. Most of the time, women do not receive recognition for their accomplishments made in sports. They don’t receive the same recognition as men and they aren’t treated with the same respect. Although women put in the same amount of work, they are often disregarded as a result of their gender. For example, NewsELA writes about Amaiya Zafar, a Muslim girl who is fighting (quite literally) to wear a hijab in the boxing ring. At first, it was hard for her to fight in the first place, as the boys wouldn’t fight her because they thought that they were too strong for her. “‘All the boys kept telling him, ‘She’s just a girl. Punch her pretty little face off. You can’t let a girl beat you,’” (Boren) This quote proves that women have to work much harder than men to earn respect in sports. Amaiya Zafar has an extremely hard time boxing as it is, as she is not only a woman, but she is in a predominantly male sport. She also wears a hijab, a traditional Muslim head covering, which is not approved to wear in most sports. Besides having to fight to win their match/game, they also have to fight to be

In the article titled “Face-Off on the playing Field,” Judith B. Stamper explorers the issue of female athletes competing on traditional boys’ sports teams. First, stamper explains how opponents argue that girls are not aggressive enough. They say that playing contact sports like football and wrestling put girls at risk of serious physical harm. The author also reports that some male athletes are uncomfortable having physical contact with girls. Some boys feel that it is wrong or ungentlemanly to be aggressive toward girls.…

In sport today I believe women are treated in an unfair way to their male counterparts. Sport is controlled by the media in this century and women are looked at as sexual objects rather than for their talent like men are. The women are also then expected to wear skimpy clothing not because it’s better for the sport but because of marketing. Professional female athletes are seen as inferior to their male counterparts and therefore don’t get as much media coverage. Women athletes play the exact same games, train equally as hard, yet are still getting paid a large amount less than men.…

In reality, these women aren’t oppressed, they aren’t weak, and they aren’t terrorists. After completing my research, I myself, learned very worthy information about the religion and the women who are a part of it. When in public and some explosion occurs or news hit the televisions, women with hijabs are automatically stared at and feared by the people around them even though, they have nothing to do with the criminality. There is also discrimination when it comes to Muslim women applying for jobs because of their hijabs. A religious piece of cloth should not be the deciding factor of any job, but rather the image of diversity to show our society that Muslim women aren’t harmful and that they are just like anyone else.…

Since it was raining, I was cold, tired, and just not in the mood to run, which is why, in my bad mood, I played defense instead of offense. After having spent about five of my Sunday’s running around on what should be considered a “lazy day”, I got pretty tired of it. That day, there were a good 22 players there and it was the first weekend since the JV Coldwater High School Soccer boys got back from their own season. The ratio from guys to girls was 13:9, which was an average amount of girls for the game. Each girl had short black athletic shorts on with the grey striped jersey tucked in.…

Some may believe the treatment of women in Predominantly-Muslim countries is unjust, while others find it normal. But, a civilian must not only base their opinions on the media. The portrayal of Muslim women in the media, especially by Khaled Hosseini, helps bring about misconceptions and stereotypes about these women and the religion in which they practice. It is true that women have more freedom in other countries, such as the United States, but this is because of the different types of societies and governments withheld in countries, and the diversity of backgrounds within countries of independent women. Islam honors and respects the virtues of Muslim women, and as the duty of every non-Muslim, these practices must be respected.…

Gender Inequality in Professional US Soccer In the United States, the professional opportunities, which are available for women to play soccer, are small compared to men. Not only that, but after having more success in competitive play, they do not earn an equal or higher pay than men as well. Even though the US Women’s Soccer team has great success and support from the soccer community, they continue to struggle with equality in regards to their earnings, recognition, and the type and degree of punishment they receive when breaking rules or guidelines.…
