I had not seen myself since the ghetto. From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me. The look in his eyes as he gazed at me has never left me" (PAGE ). The strong statement can mean many different things, but the thing that calls out to me the most is the look he had in his eyes that day, at that time has never left him. The gaze Elie had the first time he looked in the mirror after everything that had been going on is something that still has not left him to this day. The traumatizing experience of the Holocaust has left Elie Wiesel scared, and you can see it in his eyes. Many horrid images came about throughout Night as stated by Wiesel on a strong quote, "Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky" (PAGE 32).
