According to Robert Grillo in the article Humane slaughter? He says, “Raising an
animal in the market just to sell it and slaughter it is not humane itself.” So what exactly is humane treatment and animal welfare? This is when you care for an animal and give it the needs the animal needs. An example of not being humane towards an animal would be treating it as …show more content…
One of the most important one is the Humane Slaughter act that was passed in 1958. This act is to protect all animals of pain when being slaughtered. The animal must be sedated and insensible to any pain when it's going to be slaughtered. One big thing is that chickens and turkeys are excluded from this act so they don't have to be unconscious. Another important act is the animal welfare act, which is that any animal under research, exhibition, and transportation must be under care and must get all the needs that the animal needs. Animals that are being transported after 28 hours must be provided with food, water, and rest. Some states do have more protection for the animals then others. There are at least 9 states that have farm animals a little more protected. Then there are the other states, they have laws that make the farm animals less protected because they protect the industry more. Factory farming has a lot of problems within itself because of animal suffering. The majority of nearly 10 billion farm animals raised each year in the U.S suffer in conditions that consumers would not accept if they could see. There is major overcrowding in factory farms because there are hundreds of thousands of animals on that farm. All of those animals are stuck in one tiny little cage squished with many other animals. Another problem is physical alterations which include teeth clipping or tail docking performed without anesthetic. They don't have time to clean all of the materials needed to help perform this so many diseases and sickness go around in the animals. When there is sickness that is going around there is misuse in the antibiotics to compensate unsanitary conditions. Some effects with the sanitary problems are the disease that are within it. This includes cage fatigue, respiratory disease, bacterial infection and many more.Workers there aren't careful with the animals animals are abused, bruised and not in good living conditions. Also there is neglect of sick and suffering animals, due to high ratio of animals workers. One last problem with factory farms is that there is breeding for fast growth for high yields of meat, milk, and eggs that compromise animal welfare. Most of our meat and eggs comes from industrial farms so that means that animals are paying the price.Slaughterhouses have many problems to and
