In the first scenario, I went into my kitchen to prepare breakfast for my family. Upon entering the kitchen, I proceeded to get the pans and bowls I would need out. My initial question is why is the refrigerator not working? I think about the possibilities and I write down potential causes for the problem at hand. The first hypothesis I came up with is that the refrigerator is unplugged from the wall outlet. In order to test this theory, I must move the refrigerator out from the wall to check the outlet. In moving it, I find it is plugged in which means the original hypothesis is incorrect. The next hypothesis I had is that the power is out in my home. To test this, I would check other appliances and lights to see if they are functioning. After testing, I determine that hypothesis to be incorrect as my power is functioning in other areas of my home.
