Immanuel was the 4th of 9 children. HE was born in 1724 in Konigsberg, East Prussia. Kant matured under the influence of Pietism which is a Protestant sect. The sect is very popular in north Germany in the 18th century. Kant, at the age of 8, went to Collegium Fridiricianum. Collegium Fridiricianum is a Latin School that specially taught classicism. Kant studied here for 8 years and of those years learned much, and after he attended the University of Konigsberg. His academic career was spent on philosophy, mathematics, and physics. The Critique is the possibility of metaphysics, understood in a specific way. “The definition of metaphysic is the branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, substance, cause, identity, time, and space.” (Dictionary.com) Kant defines in his own terms, he says,” the cognitions after which reason might strive independently of all experience.” (Rohlf) The critique’s goal is to come to a conclusion about the impossibility or possibility of metaphysics in general and the determination of its many sources, its extent, and its boundaries.
