Oral care is crucial in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Failure to maintain a good oral health would lead to oral disease, from children to the elderly. Obtaining a dental care could be expensive and therefore dentists are obliged to provide the best possible outcome and most effective treatment through current methods relevant to a patient’s problem. Ineffective passing of information could possibly result in prescribing the wrong treatment and ignorance towards current methods and technological advancement may lead to prescribing a less effective treatment for the patient (1). To overcome these problems, the implementation of evidence based dentistry provides a platform in enhancing the skills needed in a competent dental practice environment.

Through evidence based dentistry, dental practitioners are able to assess a problem, appraise the evidence collected thoroughly to come up with the most effective treatment which is always up to date with current methods, parallel to the ongoing advancement of technology. The ability to disseminate information is pivotal in enhancing communication skills to ensure that the patient would be more receptive to the prescribed treatment, which matches the patient’s needs and preferences.
