In accordance to Marx’s ideas in the Communist Manifesto, “The bourgeoisie itself, therefore, supplies the proletariat with its own elements of political and general education, in other words, it furnishes the proletariat with weapons for fighting the bourgeoisie.” (Marx 90) By educating the masses, the bourgeoisie are showing them the inequality being thrust upon them. They give the students the knowledge of concepts and systems such as communism and how they might work for other countries. As Karl Marx comments, the Bourgeoisie creates a system in which “National one-sidedness and narrow-mindedness become more and more impossible.” (Marx 84) The masses become harder and harder to control as they become more aware of the power they hold and other options available to them. This is illustrated in the student riots in London and Argentina in the past five years. The students are rebelling against the upper classes, which control the political and financial power, for establishing the current education system. They were striking for higher-level education to be made free for students as knowledge is deemed a basic human right by the United Nations. The riots resulted in the arrests and even deaths of many students. These kinds of altercations illustrate just how relevant the class struggle is today. The bourgeoisie cannot continue to oppress the awakening masses without some kinds of concessions being given.
