I spent five years working as a compliance officer in the finance industry. Every document I wrote was under review. I had to use concise language to correspond with clients, legal departments and financial administrators. This hindered my ability to make my writing descriptive. The next ten years were spent working in the digital media industry for a pregnancy and parenting website. Here I was tasked with weaving pages upon pages of member content into content that was yet again clear and concise. It had to be clickable and appeal to marketers. I enjoyed creating useful content that supported women during pregnancy and early stages of parenting, however, my writing process became streamlined due to deadlines and quick turnaround times for client requests.
