This reason falls under “love and belongingness needs” category. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of motives, the stage of “love and belongingness stage” includes “the range of intimacy between people, a sense of having a place in the world, being part of a community, feeling accepted and approved”. As humans, we all have a desire to belong to a group, whether religious groups, work groups, friend groups or family. However, in order to be accepted and approved to a group or a community, we will be strongly motivated to meet and satisfy these needs. Due to the format and the way this course is designed, I realize that I will have more flexibility with my study schedule which allows me to be more independent of my studying and learning process, and therefore perform better on the course. This reason falls under “esteem needs” category. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of motives, the stage of “esteem needs” includes “the need for respect, self-esteem, and self-confidence.” The need for esteem includes the need for the esteem of others and the need for self esteem. As we want to be valued, appreciated, and respected by others, most likely we will strongly be motivated to obtain an achievement, accomplish a task, or perform a task to the uttermost of our
