The dominant groups tend to suppress the subordinates. The subordinates are expected to perform the job and duties that the dominants refuse to perform. That is, the work that the dominant desires to perform is exclusively available for the dominant and kept form the accessibility of the subordinates. The dominant group expects the subordinate group to be submissive, passive, lacking initiative and unable to think and act, if this is correct then the subordinate group is considered well adjusted. Basically, the dominant group determines what is normal for a specific culture. It is important to mention that the dominant group tends to avoid conflict or any satiation in which there might be questioning of their actions and activities. In other words, any actions that can potentially affect what the dominant group have created in a culture as being the norm its basically suppress. Subordinates are so dedicated to the dominants that they often lose their opportunity to acquire knowledge about their own lives. Such as, self-understanding, basically learning from their actions and hoe they might react in certain situations. It was very interesting and I gained more knowledge on the subject of inequality. This article also opened my eyes to new perspectives and opinions on the subject. We have been dealing with inequality issues for quite some time now and it seems like a never-ending process. From where we were years ago of course we have made a lot of progress but again, it has not completely change. There are still people that hold fundamental views on this subject, people that believe that whites are better than blacks and that men are better than women. Regardless of our improvements as a society we still live in a world of inequalities and discrimination towards the “minorities”. I really like how in this article they explained how the dominant group in real life blacks or men are the ones who decide what is normal, what are the rules and even the way the subordinates (blacks & women) should act. But what is even more interesting is that we really fall for it; we believe that it is okay to live a life decided by others and driven by what is best for others before than even thinking or considering what is best for us.
