Against School Response
Many would agree that school is important, including myself. However, just because it’s important doesn’t mean it’s always pleasant for the students (or teachers, apparently.) In fact, sometimes, besides school being an unpleasant experience, it can ultimately end up being a big waste of time. Not just for the student, or even the teacher, but everyone that attended a school that didn’t care about their students.
Like John Gatto said in his insightful article “Against School”, when someone is educated, it doesn’t necessarily mean they went through twelve painful years of school, nor does success automatically mean that you went through them. Success means that you worked hard to get to the top, and yes that can mean school for some people, but not all of them. And being educated can mean you’re knowledgeable, but not exclusively because of school. …show more content…
Though there are plenty of geniuses that made it without the twelve years of schooling, the one that comes to mind is Albert Einstein, but people have to keep in mind that times have changed. Not many people will take you seriously if you didn’t finish high school at least. Homeschooling is always an option, but not many people would have the discipline to follow through. We can’t trust ALL of the students of the United States to be geniuses, and that’s sad, yes, but let’s be realistic--not everyone is destined to be the next Einstein. So, yes, in general, you should go through all the schooling required--elementary school, middle school, and especially high school.

Schools are horrible, a load of teachers hate their students and a load of students hate their teachers, school can be boring, school can be a waste of time, but you know what?
