Eliminating extracurricular activities would have a disastrous effect on the life of teenagers in Johnston. In order to prepare us students for the future the schools must give us experience outside of the classroom that will teach us life lessons. Without extracurricular activities there would be many lessons that students would miss as a cause of this. In order for schools to best prepare students the administrative board must decide on a more balanced budget among the activities and they must see how the positive effects outweigh the negative effects in school activities.

Many people, like Ripley, believe that the sole purpose of school is to provide an education for its students, while that argument is partially true, it is not entirely true. Even though the education aspect is one of the primary purposes of school; that is NOT it 's only purpose. Education is very important, but it is a tool that students will use in their future. All the schooling that we endure throughout our lives; elementary, middle school, high school, and college, is used to prepare us for our adult lives. Activities may take up time from studying, but they give us time to be the teenagers that we are, and we are only this age once. We DO NOT need to spend all of our time studying. Extracurricular activities are valuable for the lessons that they teach us, and if the sole purpose of school is education. Then skipping out on school activities would be taking away some of the most important lessons that students can learn. We as students need activities in order to be successful in life. So whether a student is in band, drama, football, choir, cross country, track, mock trial, AcDec, or any other activity they are being taught valuable lessons, and the school should respect, and fund their activity fairly; with the knowledge that the student will benefit greatly from the activity that they are involved
