The portrayal of Stalin extended his presence across the country served the purpose of providing the people with confidence, shaping the views of the people to have a more positive view of stalin by glorifying him. This cult of personality reached its peak after World War II, when Stalin’s image as a powerful leader was reinforced with the notion that Stalin singlehandedly won the war. Many towns and villages were renamed in his honor as a result, thus his image dominated the country. This Cult of Personality shaped the people’s view of Stalin, allowing him to do as he wished, such as kill millions of potential opposers in the Great Purge, without losing the admiration of the people of Russia. Even intellectuals or high-ranking party members who were aware of the atrocities Stalin committed did not waver in their support for their great leader.
