"Findings highlight doctoral students taking on a large variety of both doctoral students and academic role identities during their doctoral studies and oscillating between these roles frequently over time"(p.258). While trying to cope and attended to all the requirements a doctoral program requires, they also have to play different roles. Some roles that at times may or may not affect one's identity.
Analyzing Jazvac-Martek Work Jazvac-Martek research was well developed. The time taken to introduce the topic was well organized and informative. The purpose was to target students in a doctoral program and provide the reader with essential information. The evidence provided and the proper support helped the reader understand the role of identity. The findings of the research were determined from actual students, their experiences, and their words. Unfortunately, the first area in which some improvement is needed is the ratio that was used. The ratio itself should have been balanced. For instance, the ratio should have included 5 females and 5 males. This would have created adequate balance and it would not seem that it targets one side more than the other. The research was conducted with 8 females and 1 male, making the ratio seem bias with gender. Another part of the research that would benefit from improvement was using a more diverse population. The research only used Caucasian. If the research would have included a broader population, the finding would have been different. Including a diverse population helps a research become more informative to
