According to Karl Hanes in his “Effects on Salinity in Florida’s Estuaries”, Florida’s most important estuary, economically wise, will be impacted on greatly as a result of climate change. This climate change is causing the sea-levels to rise and a change in the river flow to occur. Due to this, an increase in salinity levels will result in the harming of the biodiversity and their habitats that are present within the estuary. As a result of high salinity levels many of the estuaries in Florida will be reduced. Many of these estuaries are used for many important services within Florida and they are used as protection for the shorelines from being eroded.
The amount of salinity differs between rivers and estuaries. An average rivers …show more content…
This paper deals with the fact that there are many possible socio-economic indications regarding the impact of climate change on many of the inshore estuaries and offshore fisheries.
The report showed that many marine ecosystems are exposed to different climate and ocean behaviour. It showed that due to different forms of harvesting, many fish populations and ecosystems have been heavily affected in the past century. Many shallow coastal and offshore species have caused a directional change in the distribution of marine species in South Africa’s shores. This is a result of climate change that have caused an impact on many of the fisheries as they are dependent on the ocean. They are also dependent on the warm Agulhas current and how strong this current is.
According to the report, there is no agreement about the changes of inshore ocean water temperatures observed by satellites. The changes cause a limit in the development of conclusions regarding key factors that cause an impact on fisheries. Meaning, that with no clarified changes on ocean temperatures there wont be much development of conclusions that could impact fisheries that could possibly affect our
