So once a leader gets a hold of power, they start to do what they want to do, because now they are in the highest position, and don’t have to listen to anybody else. This could lead to madness over their own power and the amount of control they have. Why would having power be so important for a leader? It must be nice to make all the decisions you want, but for what reason does leaders succumb to the grasp of power. The idea from Art Markman would be that having the ability to do whatever you want, gives a feeling of authenticity in life. However, power may not make someones life more valid, it does create a larger sense of happiness. Whether its benefitting others that makes you happy, or being a strong figure to look up to, having power does make someone happier, because of the ability to make personal choices. King Creon inherited the throne to rule a city from his brother dying. He wanted to make a strong first impression upon the society he now ruled, so he used his power to enforce strict policies against rebels, and once this policy was broken, he wanted to show his people he would enforce his ruling. Having this power is important for King Creon because he believes it is vital to come off as a powerful leader for a first impression, so that the city will be confident in his authority.
