One of the power that literature have is that it can raise awareness of the problems in the society. Many writers have used literature as the way to let the people know the civil and social problems that the public may not see throughout the history. One of the main problems that literature has helped is the issues of slavery. For example, incidents in the life of a slave girl written by Harriet Ann Jacob and Uncle Tom’s Cabin written by Harriet Beecher Stowe was some of the most important works to expose the reality of slavery. They were often treated under unfair laws and rules during the past, and literature has play an important role to solve these problems. One of the influential people in America, Benjamin Franklin, have even take a part into discussion of the women’s right.
