A disguised era of shame and hidden from society; this is London 1665. Then suddenly the theatre announces promiscuity, power and cuckolding to give their audience a profound idea of relationships. Women were subordinated by not having the freedom and intelligence to experience what men behold. The 16th century bursts out with a lack of control, meaning religious fundamentalists had the advantage of banning theatres. Until the mighty king slammed his way to authority.
This paper forwards as it's thesis that the importance of London in restoration comedies is that it develops an upper class abnormality of shame and it allows us to experience a different view of London in a different era of time. for women, it clearly shows that them acting disrespectful or disorderly would result to punishment. Queen Mary is an example of being 'disorderly' and in result she was burned to death, although this is an underlying issue of religious beliefs, the act of cheating is viewed similarly.
London in the 16th century was very much deprived of social things in the world that gives us freedom, many were closed minded and not aware of what other 'taboo' behaviour that could be committed until the restoration comedies such as country wife, the man of mode and the provoked wife

Elizabeth mentions that 'classic hollywood' is where all actors 'give as good as they get through their words and intellectuality' which is similar with the restoration plays where they all bind together to create a good comedy as well as ambiguity towards other concepts. However there is still witty and intellectual of defending a man from cheating and this where restoration comedy gets away with
