The ancient complex societies of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Harappa had a lot of things
in common as well as some differences in their civilizations. Today we classified all these
civilizations as complex because of their sizes, the density of their population and their
government systems. But back then these civilizations had some interesting facts in common for
example, the three of these civilizations developed around rivers, since they live so near to rivers
their societies became so dependent to rivers, and also the three of these population were going

According to our book “The Tigris-Euphrates River valley
is the earliest place where a complex society appeared, this been “Mesopotamia”, in the area of
what is now Iraq and Eastern Syria” (Dunn and Mitchell, 58-59). Egypt developed around the Nile River, the dried climate of northern Africa, made people moved to a much cooler and
comfortable climate, for this reason they decided to move into the valley, were water was not an
issue anymore. “The Egyptian Nile, originated in the tropical highlands of East Africa Ethiopia”
(Dunn and Mitchell, 66-67). In comparison with the civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt, it
took a few more centuries for the Harappa society to be established, but as well as the other two
societies it emerged near rivers. In the case of the Harappa, they mainly inhabit along the Indus
River. Since the three of these complex civilizations settled around rivers, it was clear that the
rivers were going to play a major role on their societies.
Second, another interesting similarity among these civilizations is that their societies
