The coastline of Malibu consists of around twenty-one miles of coastline and includes various attractions. Malibu’s history starts with the Spanish explorers in California. They owned plenty of land and were followed by the Americans. The first Spaniard was Juan Cabrillo, who set sail from Navidad, Mexico in June 1542 and arrived in Malibu, California on September 28th, 1542. Malibu is known for their unique beaches, parks, and restaurants.
One main attraction in Malibu, California is the Pier. The Malibu Pier was built in 1905 to support the operations of Frederick Hastings Rindge's Malibu Rancho and it is located near the Pacific Coast Highway and known for its shops. Hides, grains, fruit, and other agricultural products were shipped from the pier. It was once called the Riviera of America because it is the heart of surf culture”(Malibu). On the pier, there are restaurants, games, and surfboard stores that include souvenirs. Also on the west side of the pier is the Adamson House Museum. “The 4-mile expanse of sand draws families and surfers, sunbathers and anglers” (Zuma). Zuma beach consists of great activities such as surfing, diving, swimming, fishing, and even volleyball. Surfing is one of the top sports played at Zuma beach. During the summer time the community host a festival and a surfing contest. The community is really popular for their international 1.5k swimming race. Another common activity is volleyball, which is played at one of the ten courts near the south end of Zuma beach. Another activity is stand-up paddle boarding about 9-mile tour near Paradise Cove. Most of the time, during the spring, the lifeguards host a beach soccer tournament.
