Firstly religion impacts Marji’s development because it caused one of her friends to move from Iran to the U.S.. “‘he’s going to the united states!’ ‘to the united states? why?’ ‘my parents say it’s impossible to live under an islamic regime, it’s better to leave.’ ‘but the religious leaders are very stupid, they won’t last’”(63). Marji’s friend whom she was very fond of was forced to leave Iran because of the religious leaders and the islamic regime. When marji found out, she was very sad and wanted to leave, but her parents said not to worry that they would be back.
Next by government Marji’s development was affected because the military tortured and killed her family and friends. “any news of ahmadi?’ ‘ahmadi… ahmadi was assassinated. as a member of the guerillas, he suffered hell’...’they burned him with an iron.’ i never imagined that you could use that appliance for torture”(51). It indirectly affects her through her maid and friend Mehri who likes, wants to date their neighbor, but he is out of her social class, therefore it is
