The missionaries in Things Fall Apart were negative because of how they changed the culture for the worse. On page 49, Junior tells his best friend Rowdy that he is going to transfer to a white school. The text says, ¨’I’m transferring to Reardan.’ Rowdy´s eyes narrowed. His eyes always narrowed right before he beat the crap out of someone. I started shaking. ´That's not funny,´ he said… ´it is not imaginary, it's real. And I´m transferring now. I start school tomorrow at Reardan.´ I didn't want him to get mad. When Rowdy got mad it took him days to get un-mad. But he was my best friend and I wanted him to know the truth.¨ In this quote, there are already signs of the idea of white culture destroying things for Junior. The idea of the white culture is already damaging his best friendship with Rowdy. Junior is transferring to a white school that has taken something before he even started going to the school in a negative way. On page 79, the book reads, ¨But there were a lot more people who just called me names and slammed the door in my face… about ten o'clock, as I was walking home, three guys jumped me. I couldn't tell who they were. They all wore Frankenstein masks. And they shoved me to the ground and kicked me a few times. And spit on me. I could handle the kicks.
