Music And The Spectacle In Macbeth

Decent Essays
Some of the indications that music and the spectacle are apparent in Macbeth is when the witches are chanting there is thunder and lightning and when there are military scenes, which includes drums and oboes. When there is music in a play, it helps us to understand what the characters are thinking because they are singing their feelings.

This song was chosen for the album because of how well it describes the theme of the play. The theme of the play is, "vaulting ambition leads to unchecked morals, destruction, and death." This song is called "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." The theme of the play revolves around the fact that Macbeth cannot be satisfied, he is greedy and just wants more and more, until it ultimately ruins him. The song is about social isolation, and how it affects you.…

Jon Finch plays Macbeth as a powerful but quiet character who does a very good job at hiding his emotions. “However, Macbeth’s character was not strong enough to stand up under the weight of the crime he committed, so he disintegrated into the fantasies of ignorant superstition, while his flimsy wife went mad” (Ebert 1). For such an important role in the film, I felt as though Jon Finch lived up to the expectations that the viewers had for Macbeth and he made the film that much more enjoyable.…

My idea for the Macbeth interpretation was Roman Era Macbeth, a world where emperors where power hungry rulers and the people around them suffered from it. It was a time where money and power lead people to their misery and desolation. The cinematic look and feel is very self-explanatory, since the Roman Empire had its specific look. The costume design will consist of togas, crowns, jewelry and strap on shoes. This look will mostly be for the ones in higher power compared to the lower class.…

I was very happy with the group I was put in, and we worked well with each other. Initially, we wanted to do the scene about Macduff’s family. We decided to go with the banquet scene because we had the perfect amount of people. The Sunday after we were assigned this project, the group got together to work on our scripts.…

There are five songs for each act. To represent the first Act of Macbeth, I selected “Backstabbers” by The O’Jays. The reason I choose this song to represent this Act is because in Act I, Scene VII Macbeth and Lady Macbeth was talking about killing King Duncan, so that Macbeth could take his place as King. (Page 338-339 Lines 47-72). “All the time they want to take your place/ The backstabbers/(backstabbers)/.…

The Inevitable Death of Macbeth William Shakespeare, in this tragedy Macbeth, leaves it up to the audience to decide whether it is Macbeth’s fate or his choices that leave him with people cheering at his head being raised on a post. Throughout the play the audience gets to see many occurrences of supernatural powers and also Macbeth’s ambition. These contradicting elements make it difficult for the audience to decide whether the main theme of this play is Macbeth’s fate and the supernatural powers that lead to his death or his choices and ambition. Macbeth’s iconic “Tomorrow” soliloquy captures this main theme of fate and the paranormal. As he goes through the speech, he connects life to a play, which follows a script all the way until the…

The opening scene in ‘Macbeth’ is greatly different to a majority of other Shakespeare plays, as the first scene begins with “thunder and lightning” (sd, 1.1), and only contains twelve lines. Before the Weird Sisters begin chanting, the thunder and lightning help the audience to identify that the characters they are about to see are not human or the usual characters they would be used to seeing in a Shakespeare play. It is most likely that the squib (a type of firework) was used to create the effect of lightning. “Like all gunpowder products, the squib combined foul-smelling ingredients-sulfurous brimstone, coal, and saltpeter-that reeked all the more when detonated.” During this time period, it was thought that sulphur was hellfire and had a connection to Satan, so before the Weird Sisters make their entrance, the audience would be smelling (what they probably thought was) the pits of hell, further identifying that who they are about to see are supernatural beings.…

The theme presents a knotty idea that nothing is what is seems. We live in a world where nothing and no one can be trusted; not the dreams, apparitions, or the witches. William Shakespeare uses the paradoxical motif “Fair is foul and foul is fair” to express the theme of appearance versus reality, emphasizing Macbeth’s distrust within Macbeth.…
