Every day, I try to listen to a new piece of music. Whether it be a string group, unaccompanied choir, or even a percussion consort, I believe that by doing this, so much can be learned from just listening. About the mid-month of July, I came across this piece of music. I thought it was extremely fun and quirky at the same time! I had continued to listen to it, read some background information on the piece, and do a small amount of study on the work.
When it came time to choose the piece for the creative project, I thought that the class would find the piece fun and interesting! The piece as a whole is a four movement divertimento that lasts roughly under twenty minutes. The last movement, which is the movement I played in class, is around five minutes. However, since the clavinova don’t have these specific voices, I had to substitute. For the horn voice, I chose the Solo Horn voice. The horn voice on the clavinova sounds like a typical midi horn voice. However, the voice on the clavinova always did a forte-piano followed by an immediate crescendo. This made it hard for recording short or staccato passages. For the Violins, I chose Solo Violin. The sound is very shrill, dry, and cold. This made the lyrical sections hard to record. For the Viola, there actually was a sound called “Viola”. This voice shared similar qualities with the solo violin midi voice. And for the Basso, I chose the “Cello” voice. Even though the cello voice is warmer that the violin and viola voices, it still is does not sound like a live cello.
