The saying, “I don’t feel like doing it”, is a pretty common thing one might hear coming from someone who procrastinates. Not having the motivation to even start something just creates more problems when there is only a short time to complete the task. I think the lack of motivation comes from someone’s mindset on the importance of the task. If someone thinks the task does not have much value then why would they put effort into it? In “7 Common Causes and Proven Cures for Procrastination” Angel Chernoff used the example of completing her tax return. When she put her focus into the amount of money she would get in return compared to the amount of time it actually took her motivation developed to finish the tax return (Chernoff). By adding that meaning to what she was doing, she got the task done. I can relate to the author in this because when I was younger I did every aspect of an assignment and now as I have gotten older I can tell I do not have the same drive as I did then as a student. I think that is because I sometimes do not put any meaning to an assignment. For example, a business woman working towards that promotion she has wanted for a long time or a manager forgets to put away money for their retirement. Both of these are examples of personal goals that do not have a set deadline. However, if they are not reached by points in theirs they will experience the negative effects of not striving for the promotion or saving money. In the article, “The 3 Real Reasons Why We Procrastinate”, the author said, “No deadline means no pressure. No pressure means no action. And no action means no goal” (Tsaousides). Without putting that pressure on oneself, it’s a lot easier to slack off and then lose sight of the end goal. I think Tsaousides is really trying to drive home the point that even though the deadlines to some things are nonexistent or much looser than other deadlines, it is necessary to pressure oneself to take action now and not
