All people laugh, cry, smile, and yell, these things are examples of feelings and feelings are human nature. Nothing has no feelings. Everything from a fly to a whale has feelings. Imagine Living in a world with no feelings. No laughing, crying, smiling, and yelling. Well in the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry There are no feelings. The Giver, by Lois Lowry is a perfect example of what life would be like with no feelings. The novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a utopian society. What Jonas does not know about his society is that there are no feelings. But as the book moves on he is introduced to feelings when he is selected as the next receiver of memory. He made himself say the word, though he felt flushed with embarrassment. He had reheard them in his mind all the way home from the annex. “Do you love me?” There was a awkward for a moment. Then father gave a little chuck. “Jonas. You of all people. Precision of language, please!” “What do you mean?” Jonas asked. Amusement was not at all what he anticipated.
“Your father means that you used a very generalized word, so meaningless that it has become almost obsolete,” his explained carefully. This example clearly shows that feelings so valuable to us are nothing to Jonas's community. How can they live with themselves if they don't even have love.
It seems from all of this information on The Giver is clearly trying to stand out one thing. Life without feelings is a life not worth living. It is surprising that everyone in his community are living life without feelings because I guarantee you I would not last one second without feelings. If I were to choose to either live but have no feelings or die. I would die because what is the point of having a life if you do not even know how valuable it is. Think to yourself what would our lives be like if no one had
