In the book, “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, I think “Stay Gold” means don't be the rest and stand out. I also think that “Stay Gold” means that don't be a follower, and its okay to be you than to be someone that people think of you. Just because others labeled you as something, doesn’t mean that’s how you should act. Just like PonyBoy, even though he is a Greaser, he can still act whatever way he wants to be, and does not have to be a typical gang member or troublemaker that everyone thinks that's how Greaser act. It also kind of relates to their social class, just how everyone thinks the Socs are perfect, bullies, rich, etc.…

I imagine James Still in his little shack with his typewriter and a big burden on his heart. Now, I’m sure he had more than one burden, but I can’t help but notice all the descriptions of the physical beauty of Appalachia. So, I think one of those burdens must have been planting a love for his home in the heart of his readers. He did this through the perspective of a tenderhearted seven year old boy and his five year old little brother. In this analysis I will compare the two boys’ perspectives of Appalachian nature and how it affected their lives.…

Throughout the year many stories have taught important life lessons. Although, there were three stories that stood out the most to me. Those three stories where The Chosen, To KIll a Mockingbird, and a poem Nothing Gold Can Stay. Pony recited the poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” by Robert Frost when he watched the sunrise out in the country where he was hiding from police. He remembered the poem but didn't understand what it meant. At the end of The Outsiders, Johnny was the character who figured out how the poem related to him and his friends. This poem seems to be only about nature but when one reads it carefully, he or she can see that it is really about keeping your gold until the very end. Pony’s story is symbolized by the poem and each line explains his experiences in life.…

The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, is about the story of a boy named Ponyboy, who lives with his brothers and is apart of a gang called the Greasers, and they are rivals with another gang called the Socs. The novel is the story of how they relate to one another, and the story of growth in Ponyboy’s life. The poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” is included in the story, as recited by Ponyboy to Johnny, to make a statement about gold. The poem discusses an unfortunate aspect of life, that being that the young cannot stay young, just as the leaves cannot stay green. At the end of the novel, Johnny tells Ponyboy to stay golden, which means to hold on to the good aspects of his life.…

People can either enjoy life taking it slow, while others can be can completely indifferent to all it’s beauty, and thus taking life for granted. In the poem “Spring” by Edna St. Vincent Millay, it is communicated that spring is deceiving and it is shown that there is no point to life. “The Waking” by Theodore Roethke is more about going with the flow and appreciating life as is. The poems are similar because they both approach death and what is to come. Whereas, the two poems are different in their theme, tone, and use of literary devices.…

This poem uses many literary devices. An example of assonance is “Into the nothingness of scorn and noise”, this is assonance because of the repeating “O” sound. This poem also contains much figurative language such as similes, metaphor, imagery and personification. An example of a metaphor is “The vast shipwreck of my life’s esteem”. This is a metaphor because it is comparing his life to a shipwreck, which means that everything that he once valued or enjoyed is now a huge mess; a shipwreck.…

Both poems are about a character having an accident and one (out out) results in a death of a young boy and the other (disabled) results in the soldier losing some of his limbs. We sympathise about the characters in the poems for different reasons. An example for ‘disabled’ is showed by how the soldiers’ life changes massively after the incident he had and lost his limbs. On the other hand in ‘out out’ where the boy has lived a tragic life and has died by an incident where he caught his hand in a saw and lost it and died of blood loss whilst people watched him die and didn’t care about eh boy because they’re not the ones who are dying. ‘Out out’ shows how a young boy’s life comes to an end because of a saw.…
