Summarize the review of literature The review of literature includes a description of “disaster” as either human-caused or nature caused. It defines disaster preparedness as being able to respond with skill and knowledge. It says that nursing knowledge and ability is greatly needed in a disaster and that nurses should be capable of responding. It talks about how nurses are mostly unprepared and how they should practice and take courses in order to become prepared. Morrison and Catanzaro (2010) describe a practice drill where nursing students participated in an infectious disease emergency drill. They say, “This public health emergency preparedness simulation exercise of infectious disease outbreaks can be a useful learning strategy at other educational institutions and can be easily replicated” (Morrison & Catanzaro, 2010, p. 171). …show more content…
This means that something should be done, such as training, to prepare nurses for disasters and make them more confident in their abilities to be able to handle the demands of a disaster. The nursing framework issue is that nurses should participate in the practice drills held in their communities and take disaster preparedness courses when the opportunity presents
