When something is instilled in an adolescent at a young age it is more than likely going to stay with them as they grow older. This is very important to the process of becoming a healthier state. As of right now the birth rate per 1,000 women in west Virginia is at 61.5%. This means that there are a lot of young children that are subject to believing that being overweight is normal. If school systems, all through out West Virginia were to start health and wellness programs that could solve the problem. One example of a health and wellness program that can be started in schools is the Fuel Up to Play 60 Program. This program sponsored by the NFL has the initiative to push kids to become active and eat healthier in their everyday day lives including school. The problem of obesity mostly remains with in adults in West Virginia. In 2008 the County with the highest obesity rate in adults was Logan Country with 40.3%. That is well above the average for the state and a very big problem. Being overweight in the workplace is also a risk factor depending on where someone is employed. For example, if someone is overweight and working in construction they may be more of a hazard and as lawyer like to put it, a liability. One way to combat for this issue within adults is to implement health and fitness programs throughout companies. These programs will not only improve a persons help and encourage them to lose weight but it will help with other things such a depression and hypertension according the Center for Disease Control. An example of something that can push individuals to become healthier is the workplace are Weight-loss contests. If everyone were to pitch in a certain amount of money before the contest started that would be the prize for whomever lost the most weight. This is a great source of motivation for employees. Another aspect of promoting health in fitness is having a Physician come in and give health exams and talk about the dangers of obesity. Allowing testing to individuals for such diseases as Type 2 Diabetes that may not be able to afford it in the first place can quite possibly save lives. Lots of overweight patients may not know they
