I was very close with my Great Grandma Smith, who I lost a few years ago. This event caused pain and loss in my life, but it made me realize the importance of my relationships with my family. As a young child, I could not understand why someone I loved so much would leave. I had yet to realize, that it was not her choice, and that she is still always with me. I remember many of the memories we made. Including, Thanksgiving, playing with dolls, her igniting an interest in me to play piano,and listening to her stories, I will always remember these joyous moments. I still feel connected to her, whether just sitting and thinking about her, or playing the piano. Although she is gone, she is always in my heart. This made me realize how much we should value the time we have with people. After losing someone I loved, I am more careful concerning my interactions with my family, and realize how important they are in my life. Going through this event changed me. After, I thought of people and the way I act towards them differently. I would love my family even if I did not experience the pain of losing a family member, but since I lost someone I love, it makes me realize how important they truly are to me.
