But, over the last few years due to advancement of technologies and researches, there has been a drastic increase in surgical procedures undertaken in conscious patients. However, many patients are anxious and resistant to such surgery. Being awake, feeling or seeing the body cut open and experiencing pain all increases anxiety. The general set up of operation theatre, its environment involving monitor bleeps, sounds of handling surgical instruments, low temperature in the operating room, narrow operating table, all adds to the anxiety caused due to operations under local anaesthesia. The thought of operation procedure and various other contributing factors in the operation theatre creates a horrific experience to a patient undergoing surgery (Chit Ying et al 2001). (NMC, 2015)states that the care provided must be evidence based without too much delay and to the best of your abilities.It also declares to nurses to communicate effectively in all context and to act on any feedback received promptly.
