Organizing involves developing a structural organizational and thus allocating human resources to ensure efficiency and accomplishments. Managers can organize an organization departmentally according to functions carried out, geographical locations and also segmentation of clients.

A) Some of the merits include: Employees being defined and recognized by their level of leadership thus authority and levels are responsibility are well defined. It also promotes opportunities for promotion thus motivating employees to work smarter and achieve set objectives. This kind of structure also promotes employees advancements as specialists thus becoming experts in their various functions.
B) However, some of the demerits of using hierarchal structures in organizations include communication problems as some departments may make decisions that benefit them only thus disregarding the organizations as a whole. This structure also tends to take more time in making decisions thus limiting the organizations speed to change and adapt. The hierarchal structure also tends to increase an organizations costs as different levels of management represents different earnings by employees.
