Leonhard Euler was a famous eighteenth century physicist who was responsible for developing many concepts that are now part of modern mathematics. He is acknowledged for many of the articles and books that he wrote over his lifetime. Leonhard was one of the top mathematics of the eighteenth century and the greatest mathematician to come out of Switzerland (Leonhard Euler Biography n.pag).
Leonhard Euler was born on April 15, 1707 in Basel Switzerland. His parents were Paul Euler and Marguerite Brucker. His father was a minister and a former mathematician. However his interest in mathematics had certainly been sparked by his father's teaching, and he continued to read mathematics texts on his own time and took some private lessons. John Bernoulli took a great interest in Euler when he was teaching him in a private lesson. He saw that Leonhard had great potential in the field of mathematics (O’Connor n.pag). In seventeen twenty-three Leonhard completed his masters degree in philosophy. In the fall of seventeen twenty-three he began his study in theology. Euler finished his studies completely in seventeen twenty-six. Also in seventeen twenty-six Euler had a paper in print, a short article on isochronous curves in a resisting medium (O’Connor n.pag).
Moving to Russia in seventeen twenty-seven, Euler served in the navy before joining the St. Petersburg Academy (Leonhard Euler Biography n.pag). Euler served as a medical lieutenant in the Russian navy from seventeen twenty-seven to seventeen thirty. He stayed and lived with Daniel Bernoulli in St. Petersburg. Euler became professor of physics at the Academy in seventeen thirty and, since this allowed him to become a full member of the Academy, he was able to give up his Russian navy post (O’Connor
