“Cleaning off a penguin isn’t easy. It takes two people-one to hold the penguin, another to do the washing”(7). Volunteers are needed all over the place and since it takes multiple people to accomplish one job there is very little helpers to finish the other jobs at task. On top of that, delicate areas around the face of the penguin needs to be washed with a toothbrush making the whole process about an hour, but through the hardships at hand the volunteers pushed on through to the end. “Oil from the spill had started moving north toward Dassen Island... If any more birds were oiled we wouldn’t have enough resources to save them”(8). Not only did they have to clean the penguins where they were, the oil spill was spreading to another island. The volunteers had to travel all the way to Dassen Island not only to capture them but to also move them 500 miles away from the sight. With this in mind the penguins would automatically swim back to their habitat because of the set GPS they have, and by the time they did, the oil spill would have been cleaned which ended up being the case.
