Do you want to know how I grew up from a small town in Iowa to the best football player and coach? When I was about 8 I started playing football. I was the best linebacker in high school and college football. I was the 1st, 1st round pick in the NFL draft. Retired and became the best football coach in history.…
In life, everyone finds a passion, a hobby, an outlet that brings them joy, and often that pastime can be taken to the extremes where their infatuation gets the best of them. A significant example is baseball and its vigorous fans cheering and booing at an athlete’s encounter with the flying ball. Will he hit it or strike out? How far will he hit it? Will someone catch it?…
The article Anti-intellectualism: We Hate the Smart Kids by Grant PenRad talks about how students in high school value the championship of a sport over the championship of academics. Penrod says, “The football players enjoyed the attentions of an enthralled school, complete with banners, assemblies, and even video announcements in their honor, a virtual barrage of praise and downright deification. As for the three champion academic teams, they received a combined total of around 10 minutes of recognition, tacked onto the beginning of a sports assembly.” Penrod's point of this example is to show how high schoolers value sports more then academics. He talks about the different stereotype such as geeks are nerds and others.…
I would like for you to get to know me a little bit better. I'm going to tell you just a few of my passions. You can tell a lot about someone by their interests. Growing up I’ve always been raised around sports. Basketball it was the Denver Nuggets until Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony traded teams.…
Sports have been a key component to human civilization since the beginning of time, as our ancestors created and competed in a large selection of different physical competitions. Taking in these different sporting events, has become a huge form of entertainment for many people. Looking into the past, the only way to enjoy these games was to actually visit the ballpark a team was playing at. Even today, thousands of fans show up to a ballpark on a nightly basis to find some joy out of watching a team come together and try to win a game. A ballpark, is “a park in which ball games (as baseball) are played” (Merriam-Webster).…
At the end of the day the estimated amount of money spent overall on the day of the super bowl ends up being around 5.6 billion dollars. I just want to take a step back and think that the kind of good that could be done with this money. To put it into a little bit of perspective, if America took three years and saved this money instead of spending it on super bowl enjoyment that would give us a budget of about 16.8 billion dollars. The other day I came across a picture on facebook which was created by Katie Bieber Loverland which shows the good we could do with 14 billion dollars. With this money we could give a year of education to 1.3 million school children, 70,000 $200 thousand dollar grants could be given for research on cancer, HIV/AIDS,…
The time I fell off my friend’s trampoline, and broke my arm. I was 11 years old I my friend Pete and his sister were playing football outside. So after we played football we decided to go inside to relax, and get some water.…
Here in the United States there is a sport that virtually owns a day of the week. For many people, this sport, football is a way of life in a figurative sense. For very few, the most elite to put on the pads this game is literally their way of life. For playing this game, the reward is living the dream that all of them collectively dreamt from the time they first put on the pads in Pop Warner. Living this dream also comes with the perks of fortune and fame.…
I had no stake in the teams or how well they did. When I joined the wrestling team that changed because I realized it was my school to and that it was more than just the place where I learned, it was an opportunity to get to know other people and support them in their endeavors. I began to have a sense of pride in my school; when one of our teams won, I won, and vice versa. It didn't matter if I had been at the game or if I knew anyone on that specific team. When I first joined the wrestling team I had a lot of free time on my hands.…

As a student athlete who moved multiple times, I built many relationships with my teachers and coaches. I will always remember the teachers and coaches that had a positive impact on my life, whether it was in second grade or my senior year of high school. When I entered college, I contemplated majoring in Education and going straight into teaching because it was of serious interest to me. However, I chose to go another route with my major. After working for a few years in another field, I decided that it was time to strive for a profession that enthused me.…

In twenty-nine seasons, four hundred sixty-four breathe taking games that usually had me on the edge of my chair, spread out on the floor with eyes closed with nervousness. When playoff time comes around I made sure to tune into every game; I would wake up to ESPN, WFAN, and NFL network it felt like a relationship. I would spend hours listening to the commentator break down each team plays only to ascertain about the opposing squad. All of my family, friends, and co-worker knew once the game was on the television my team was going to be the first to score. The amount of time I have put in observing the game, I wanted to represent the team I love by wearing the team colors.…
Athletes are looked upon as heroic, courageous and strong but they’re also human beings who are prone to making mistakes. Some people put athletes on a pedestal but nobody is perfect. Some people are against dominant sports because the events are commercialized and bureaucratic with the interest being how much capital can be made where alternative forms of sports…
