People in India and China are starving for your job.’” Last year in 9th grade, I couldn’t understand the fact some less fortunate people would kill for the opportunity I have. Sometimes, I will reflect on the past and think about how difficult it was for me to transition into being a middle school student to a high school and “college” student. The classes were rigorous and definitely not what I was used to, and instead of trying harder I slacked off. Role conflict happens when you can’t meet the obligations of two or more roles. To put it simply, I was fighting a losing battle with my classes, and I wasn’t happy about it. With this said, role conflict can be lessened or eliminated in nine ways. The first way is through rites of passage. This is when a person transition from one status to another. An, example of this would be if I stopped taking high school classes took all college classes. Second, it can be alleviated through delinquency or crime. Fortunately, I did not commit a crime when I was having trouble with school, but this is an effective stress outlet for some. Third, mental illness to ease role conflict. In this method you are feeding into your habits or mental illness to escape reality. Fourth, a solution to role conflict is compartmentalizing. Which is switching out roles when needed. Fifth, prioritizing your role obligations. For instance, I would do my college work before my high school work, in case I run out of time. Sixth, physical illness can be used to escape or avoid role conflict. Seventh, changing the definition of the role can solve the problem. Eighth, we can give up some roles to relive stress. Giving up college classes and sticking to high school courses would be an example of this. Ninth, running away from our roles would be a way to completely get rid of role

Beginning junior year, I occupied myself with the most constructive investment in my life. My daily routine was bland, but oddly hailed as the ultimate path to victory. I was learning in school, but the learning lacked meaning. Plot lines and mathematical formulas were unavailing ideas, which I tepidly regurgitated. I concluded that a life permeated with monotonous toil was not worth celebrating on my day of judgment.…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

The past two weeks I have worked at northshore maternity and national womens community midwives. During my week at northshore it was incredibly busy and understaffed. I also remember thinking at times, where has the midwifery gone? We were so busy rushing around trying to provide safe and quality care to the women, but that fact is I feel we were too busy, with too larger case loads to provide true midwifery care. I cared for many day 1-2 sections, women with large blood losses requiring blood transfusions, a secondary PP and there was a woman with confirmed H1N1 on the ward who was unstable – but HDU wouldn’t allow her to be transferred around, and many other complex situations that really challenged my competence, knowledge and practice reasoning.…

In the fall of 2010 I was acclimating to a life back in Los Angeles and actively looking for a position where I was serving others. I secured a tutoring position in an underserved community for students in grades k thru 12 in the areas of math, science, and English for a startup tutoring company called 1 On 1 Academic Tutors. My greatest competitive advantage became my hunger to succeed and to actualize the life that my parents envisioned for me when they migrated from Mexico. Whilst studying business in sixth form, I partook in a team for a charity event in which we created and sold our own milkshakes with the proceeds going to WaterAid. One of the main factors that contributed to our success was our overall efficiency and performance. We implemented our own individual skills which allowed us to merge our strengths and progress as a team. We respected each other’s differences and used this to our advantage. Whilst we were all very different, I do feel that these differences worked well and complemented each other’s style of working in a positive way.…
