Personal Narrative: Determined To Learn

Improved Essays
Determined to reconnect with my musical heritage, I invested countless hours sequestered in my room learning the art of playing the guitar from online videos. After mastering my first three chords, the ones that followed became more difficult and I was unable to play them with any semblance of accuracy. I began to experience the same horrible feelings when I was learning the piano. “No, I exclaimed to myself” as I purged those demons from my mind. I had learned a valuable lesson from my earlier encounter with the piano. If I just give up I will never accomplish my goals; no matter if it is in regards to a musical instrument, school, or life in general. Determined not to fail, I spent the next three years teaching myself to play guitar.

When I was twelve years old I began to take guitar lessons, and I was terrible. After three weeks of lessons I gave up. If I was persistent enough by practicing every day, maybe I would have became a famous guitarist (I said maybe). We have all at some point in our lives given up on something. I feel this is one of my weaknesses because if a situation does not work out in my favor I will give up trying.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

“In three words I can summarize everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” I remember these words repeating in my head as my mom told me the devastating news about my uncle. When you are living your life, you began to feel as if nothing can come between you and your happiness. You forget that this journey does come to an end like a roller coaster does after its crazy, adrenaline-filled ride and it can happen to anyone you know. Events in life can hit you at any given moment, and sometimes you have to take the memory by the hand and carry it with you because it may be the reason you are who you have become today.…

My Journey With Learning My desired career as a dentist lies eight years away and during four of those years I will be exposed to unrelated subjects such as math and history in order to make me a “well-rounded” individual. My journey with learning mirrors that of Samuel Scudder in his article “Look at Your Fish: In the Laboratory with Agassiz”. It is clear to see that my learning style is a product of the forced education guidelines I must follow as a U.S student; I do not learn everything there is to learn in one subject, but instead snippets from each subject…

The most important thing about me, and one of the things I care about most, is my passion for learning. The second most important thing about me is that I want to help people. I have always been an inquisitive person, wanting to know the why of something, I wanted to truly understand things. I found out that I cannot possibly learn everything there is to learn, rather early in life, but I have always been a determined person, and I want to learn every day for the rest of my life. In high school, I learned that the best way for me to truly show that I learned something, that I understood it was to show someone else.…

Everyone has their unique ways of learning something from start to finish. Often times we take for-granted our abilities to successfully teach a task or technique to ourselves not to mention others. Once we find that drive or that spark we can put forth the effort to teach us something that we have never learned before. Its all about the ideas behind what actually goes into learning something new. In an effort to gain a better understanding of how we learn I have thought of a learning goal, something that I have always wanted to teach myself and to learn the techniques to successfully produce a work of art.…
