My letters are painfully long, but I know Oli appreciates them as he always writes back. Now, why would my best friend be so far away? What a long story that is. Everything began the day before summer in fifth grade. On this day, which is now marked in my pastel blue calendar, a small boy decided to approach me and compliment my outfit. Oli had been ignoring me, saying he was “giving me space”. I tried desperately to call him, talk to him, and apologize, but Oli refused to speak to me. It was only when I was truly agitated with him that he decided to talk to me. As our small talk continued to grow, we realized the true pain being apart put on us. By now, Oli had only a week before he had to move and we spent nearly all of it together. We had spent so much time together having colossal amounts of fun we had forgotten the little time that was left. It was a few hours before Oli had to move. I had spent the previous hours eating and helping Oli pack up various, pictures, sweatshirts, and other pieces of clothing. “So are you ready?” I asked. Oli simply hummed in response. Frowning, due to his lacking response, I went downstairs to grab a bag of chips. I walked back upstairs and handed Oli the bag giving him a toothy grin. We sat on his bed in a comfortable silence for many minutes when his mom called up, indicating that they had to leave. As we walked down the stairs and back outside, I finally spoke

Now, after a total of thirty-three hours of traveling, my body flopped on the cheap hotel bed in Athens, Greece. I buried my face in the pillow, waiting patiently my best friend to come in through the door.…

Just past the Raceway gas station, where the speed limit drops from 55 to 35 on Route 10, stands a narrow bridge that hovers over the James River. As your car veers with the road to the right, the trees disappear and the dark, flat water rests beneath you. The bridge’s concrete and rubber expanders jump your car’s suspension up and down as you slow to enter the city. Along each side, the green trees envelope the shoreline and reach out their bright branches, enshrouded with leaves, to you in welcoming. Once back onto the mainland, a petite mustard yellow sign to the right of the road reads Welcome to the City of Hopewell.…

I came out of my shell during the end of my 5th grade year towards my 6th grade year. First and foremost before we get that far this is how it all began. I was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone; a really small country located in West Africa.. My family were looking for something we could do in Downtown Sacramento last September 2nd, this year. I searched on Google about events that will happen that Saturday, and I found out about a 3-day SacAnime event at the Sacramento Convention Center. My sixteen-year-old son loves anime shows, so he was ecstatic when I told him about the event, and so did I, as I’ve never been to an event like that. So off we went to the convention. While we were walking toward the convention, we saw hundreds of people everywhere dressed up in costumes with their favorite characters from different shows, series, movies, cartoons and so on.…

Growing up, I was always surrounded by family and friends at all times. There was nothing to worry about but continue to be happy and live my life as it was going. Being in a two-year relationship, then breaking up unpredictably taught me how to become independent of my own self, take care of myself, and have self-love before I want to take care of others and have a love for others.…
