Spring Break Day

In April of 2012, on a spring break day, my sister and I had no clue that this normal-seeming day would turn into a day full of surprise. Maya, my sister, was four years old with blonde hair and eyes as light blue as a clear sky. Many people said her hair was as soft as silk. I, on the other hand, was seven years old with dark brown hair and chocolate eyes. The morning was a typical spring morning near the beach in Santa Cruz, foggy and cold. My mom, dad, sister and I had just approached our destination, Natural Bridges, but not the main entrance, the secret one. The neighborhood in front of us seemed as if it was disappearing in the foggy haze. There were few sounds just the bark of a dog and the hum of a couple cars passing by on the …show more content…

It was the definition of grace and beauty as it glided through the pond. The upright posture of the swan reminded me of a ballerina. The feathers were white as snow and its beak and webbed feet were larger than I had expected. Suddenly, it started swimming fast towards us hoping for food, maybe bread. I felt excited. We have been back since this first trip. Now, seven years later, there is a fence along a portion of the path where the swan hangs out and eats. I can only assume I’m not the only person that was clueless and didn’t know swan behavior. Also, I probably wasn’t the only person that sparked the curiosity of the

Once the whale stopped, she rose to the surface so that her eye was just above the water, staring directly at James. “She stared at me for thirty seconds, as if she was saying thanks for the help” said James, “ and she did this to every diver that was in water”. In more urbanized areas, I have only witnessed eagles on the water about 10 times in my hundreds of hours in the field. Days spent observing eagles are special. The Swan at Edgewater Park – Essay Response In The Swan at Edgewater Park, Schwartz uses a swan as a fascinating extended metaphor in a way very rarely seen in poetry. It continues through the entire poem, tumbling and reflective, calling light to a life half sad, half hopeful. The characters, too, are a motley mix of qualities, forlorn and shabby but also graceful. The poem is complicated, both in meaning and structure, and I ended up with several varied interpretations.…

It was in early June of 2006, a pleasant, exciting Saturday evening. One hundred of us sit anxiously, one after the other, in cold metal chairs in the cafeteria of my elementary school. We wore purple silky gowns. We wait nervously for our names. When we got there, I was immediately in love with the beach. Time seemed to stop, and all I could take in was the cold of the water around my ankles, and the exciting fact that I was actually there. It was so beautiful, and I don’t think I've ever seen something so BIG! The way the waves jumped and leaped over each other was amazing. We all ran to the shore and I slowly dipped my toe into the water, smiled at my mom, and leaped into the the blue waves.…
