Personal Narrative Essay: My Hero's Lover

One day when I, Stella Reyes, got home from school, I found a mysterious letter lying on my bed. There was only an address and the cursive words of ‘To: Stella’ on the envelope. I opened it and began to read until I found out… I had a twin brother! His name was Stephan and there was only one way I could meet him. I had to follow the address which apparently was said to be the home of the witch, Erica. I just had to do this, I thought to myself. The house I ended up at was pretty rundown and seemed suitable for a witch. I knocked on the door and it immediately opened. Erica was sitting at a table and she gestured for me to have a seat. I sat down and we began. “I know where Stephan is but I won’t tell you. You don’t need to mess with his life.”

It was a gray day. The sun did not shine; it could not sever the layers of powdery black skies and the fog. The thick mist that was not really rain and not really fog covered the southeastern corner of New Jersey. It was depressing, just like most days in the area surrounding the Overbrook Asylum. On the outside, Overbrook was a welcoming place where patients were treated with care and respect; the inside was very different.…

Campbell decided that heroes come across many challenges that are put into stages and in those stages the hero grows closer to the reward at the end. I am definitely not a hero, but my journey of finding Christ and giving my life to him has absolutely made me into a better person overall. As I look at my journey of finding Christ, I see that it has many similarities to Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.…
