On a hot summer day, the linden tree in front of the house was spreading a rich flavor of the sun, cherry, strawberries and grapes in the wind. The dogs were barking incessantly, they knew that we had arrived. As soon as we entered the yard, my grandmother welcomed us with warm hugs and kisses, while my grandfather was waiting humbly for his turn… That's the picture I saw every single Saturday of my life. That's how I will describe my childhood, and that's how I want my future kids to describe their childhood someday.
For me, Saturday's had a more spiritual and holy meaning than any other Sunday could ever have. I vaguely remember my grandfather-Vladimir-the person who evokes in me so many memories and so many smiles...One that I remember,

Once I grew up I found out that he, a former sailor, wandered every sea and oceans until he reached the Chinese shores. From then on, I enjoyed his stories and even though I was older I loved listening and telling them. I was six during the time he was “trying my mind”, and asking me about the …show more content…
He even gave me homework, can you imagine that? My own grandfather! I had to memorize twenty capitals each week, and when I say that, I mean, twenty...capitals...each...week! But, I wasn't complaining too much, because I got a good reward which was candy and money! It’s all a child can ask for. The truth is, my mom was always taking my money because she knew I would've spend them on more candy. After that I was always wanting to learn more and I was always looking for new sources of knowledge including candy. When I was 10 he fascinated me with more stories from the hunger times. He taught me to be humble and to appreciate everything that I have. At the same age of 10 he introduced me to the lecture, that I fell in love rapidly. Starting with Dabija, Rebreanu, and Petrescu finishing off with Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Chekhov. I read them all. When it was his 85th birthday I gave him flowers and he then said, “You know, nobody gave me flowers before.” One thing that I always knew was that he loved me. He loved to spoil me and watch how I was growing up and becoming taller than him. Though, every grandparent has its “favorite” grandchild and I knew that deep down in his soul, my grandfather

Go Dogs Go, not only is memorized into my brain, but is sitting on my bookshelf with tape holding the cover on, and the color of the illustrations fading every day, no longer the color they were. On page 5, I can still notice the cheesy, Cheetos fingerprint, even though my mother always told me to wash my hands after I finished eating, and before reading. Not only did I have memories with your book, I had journeys. Every time I listened to the book or as I mumbled, and stuttered, trying each word until I was old enough to fluently read this child’s book. Journeys flooding into my imagination as each word was spoken, or as each dog crossed the page.…

GROWING UP Growing up, I didn’t have many luxuries, if any. The best thing I had was being a 5 minute walk away from a convenience store. The house I grew up in was infested with cockroaches and was falling apart within the walls. The dining room was so small, some of us had to eat on the floor. We only had three bedrooms, so my three younger siblings had to sleep in the living room.…

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

In the third chapter of Gretchen Rubin’s book “The Happiness Project”, she focuses on the concept of how working on a daily basis can contribute to an individual’s happiness. Rubin’s main focuses include the following topics when referring to the contributions working has on one’s happiness: launch a blog, enjoy what it feels like to fail, ask for help, work in a smart manner, and enjoy the present instead of worrying about the future. Throughout the opening pages of the chapter, Rubin explains how multiple studies have shown that having a positive attitude at work and appearing to be happy will increase performance and tend to be much more cooperative with other workers. This allows the individual to work in a group willingly and provide…
