Two years later, I was sitting in a cold, sterile office. A doctor held a pile of cards, each with a printed circle on it composed of a thousand dots. He asked me, “Jake, what number do you see?” But, I didn’t see a number, just a multitude of dots. He asked again, “Jake, what number do you see?” My heart started beating faster and I began to worry I was going to fail, so I decided to start making up answers.
